The Donald Pliner FW18 Collection is here and with it our Fall 2018 Campaign - Space/Time. This season takes us on a journey with our two models, Chad Pinther and Georgie Wass, as we discover what it means to move through space and time in our shoes.
Using a more ethereal approach to how we showcase our product, we asked the VP of Marketing and Creative Services, Brenden Kennedy, to share some behind the scenes insight to the campaign.
Q: Where did you come up with the idea for “Space/Time?”
It all starts with product! Our Creative Director, Silvano Banfi, leads such amazing work and I instantly fell in love with the product. This FW18 Collection is anything but elemental! It’s dynamic, multi-dimensional and filled with color and modern embellishment to bring timeless style to your wardrobe. It’s a contemporary spin on glam rock with clean, architectural lines that adds an element of unexpected poise to your look. So I wanted to create something unexpected.
Q: Tell us more about the glam rock?
When I was first showed the collection, I felt a strong reaction to certain pieces like the white booties and glitter suedes. Instantly, I heard David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” in my head and then started dreaming of this idea of starlight. I remembered that (photographer), Juan Algarin, had done something cool with stars in the past and I gave him a call and it all clicked.
Q: How did you achieve the stars effect?
We really wanted to find a way to show a unique perspective while highlighting our shoes in the best possible light. So Juan and I came up with this idea of using a high powered projector to project images on top of the models and then using a spotlight to cut through and showcase the product. That’s the coolest part, in my opinion, that everything was shot exactly how you see it!
Q: Do the projected images have any larger meaning?
Our customers are anything but basic - they are men and women with a cool factor and an edge. The Pliner customers are dreamers, believers, doers. They aren’t afraid to let their head be in the clouds sometimes. With our eyes on the stars and our shoes firmly on the ground, we can do anything and be anyone and that’s what being a Pliner is all about.
